I read Hunter S. Thompson's "Hells Angels" back in the early 80s and in his book he says that they got their start as "bombers" in wwII who upon coming home had NO job and NO good industrial experience to get another one. This he mentions as the reason for their anti-establishment mentality as they had no where to return to, so to speak. Apparently they found a home with each other on Harleys and were pushed back to the hills of Los Angeles by the 70s via the cops.
